What's Happening in South Shawlands

World Mission Council.

As many of you know, in the last year I have become involved in serving in the World Mission Council in the Church of Scotland. This has been very stimulating, giving me a greater vision of all the work that the church in involved with worldwide. At the General Assembly in May, they are presenting a report on “ Christian Communities in Minority situations” which I would encourage people to read and reflect on. There is much about the difficulties and pressures that Christians can face in different parts of the world, and it is a challenging but essential read.

Ministries Council.

Also at the General Assembly in May, the Ministries Council report is calling for substantial reductions in ministry personnel in the next 4-5 years. If passed, this will have major ramifications for all Presbyteries, and for presbytery plans. We will look at this issue and its ramifications in more detail in the next magazine.

The autumn.

In the autumn, we will be celebrating 450 years since the Scottish reformation in a special service. We will also look in more detail about the work of the Church of Scotland through the different Councils of the church.

Tape Ministry

Tapes are made of the different morning services in South Shawlands church, and if you would like to listen to a copy for a specific date, please look in the resource room for the relevant tape.  If you cannot find what you are looking for, please contact Anne Gilfillan, and she would be delighted to help.
